HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM - Expect heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees. Stay cool, seek SHADE and HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! Keep an eye on each other for signs of heat stroke and exhaustion. Don’t forget about the pets, they need shade and water too!
A YELLOW FLAG DAY with MODERATE rip current risk at the beaches south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone and always take flotation!
LOW rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 835 AM today.
Expect partly sunny skies today with showers and thunderstorms likely. Temperatures in upper 80s to low 90s with a heat index of up to 110 degrees possible. South to southwest winds at 5 to 10.
